wahaha ! 14 JAN 2012: CCA FAIR.

Awesome Fancy Drill !! This year, is our first time using SO MANY girls in fancy drill and SO MANY fancy steps. The process was hard and tiring but we made it ! When everybody thought we can't, we've prove them wrong ! When everyone thought we would fail, it was wrong!! When we ourselves start to lose faith it was SOSO disappointing but eventually we still did it !!! <3

There was joy as well as unhappiness in this whole process of planning for cca fair. There were disagreement but fun moments too!! All the hard work were paid off today ! I hope this whole fancy drill and cca fair bonded us together. Hopefully we continue to work together as one and show the world what GIRLS CAN DO !!! :B GIRLS' POWERRRRR .

I really appreciate ALL the time you've spent in planning. I know it was SUPER TIRING and DISAPPOINTING at some moments . Probably felt like giving up but IM SUPER THANKFUL that you guys held on and continued with what you've been tasked to do ! <:

Thankful for all sec2s for being such supportive Juniors by staying back after practice to help out at the booth!! You guys just rock luh !! <:

Hello Girls. JIEYI here. :) How's school? It is the new year already. Happy New Year and have faith in yourselves.

I have Camp Refelections from the Sec2 girls to share with everyone. It is about last year's fun camp. :) And erhem, I edited some english grammatical errors. :P

Fun Camp 2011 was an amazing one. We had an adventure trip at Bedok Reservoir. It was super fun. We tried all the obstacles that includes flying fox, tarzan jump, walking on logs and many more! I had overcome my fear after I tried the tarzan jump. The girls before me said that it was quite scary. During the fun camp, we've tried many different things that we have not tried before. Baking was one of them. It was interesting as we made pop cakes and molten cakes. I bet not many have tried this kind of things. Then at night, we had a barbecue session. I think it was my first time barbecuing as all the other BBQ party I went, the food were barbecued for us. So that night we barbecued chicken, marshmallow, satay and even mushrooms, by ourselves! I really enjoyed myself throughout the camp. And as for the activity I enjoyed most, it was the night walk. It was held in the AVA room. Although it wasn't scary, but there were numerous sudden screams that shocked me. Overall, this was one of the most enjoyable camp I had. :)

Even though I only join camp on the second day due to fever, I still had much fun! I really bonded with the girls and especially my group members . They really took care of me and we had much fun together. The night walk was fun and abit scary but I had my friends so I wasn’t afraid (: and I know that the ‘ghosts’ are my friends! Comforting those who were scared made us felt more mature and grown up. Cleaning up, eating, sleeping together really made us a one big family! I wish for more camp in GB soon (:

My very first Fun Camp with Gb 9th coy was fun and enriching with all the adventures and baking. I picked up skills and they added up to my original courage. I appreciate the seniors, officers and teachers for coming back to accompany us throughout the camp. I always think I am not capable of doing much but now I have learnt about my strengths. During baking, I have learnt to be patient and listening to instructions is very important as if we don’t practice them, our cake pops and molten cakes would be a failure! Thinking back, the camp had make my three days two nights a fruitful one. Make a better camp next year!

Hello, Huishi here! :-) I found that the fun camp was really fun! Especially the flying fox and everything because it was very adventurous and I haven't tried it before. It was a brand new experience! ^^ I also managed to learn how to make your own BBQ pit indoors and normally I wouldn't even help in BBQ-ING stuffs but however i got the chance to BBQ satay myself! It was really tiring and the smoke keep getting into my eyes but however it was memorable! I really learnt lots of stuffs through the fun camp and also had fun!

Well, that's 4 girls in total, but I will post the rest of the reflections as time passes. ;) <3

Church Sunday School :)

The Sec2s went to help out in the Sunday school in the Sundays of November. It was an enriching experience and that the little children are cute and lovely. Half of us went to the kids church where the primary school students are and another half of us went to help out with the little lambs where the K1s, K2s and the nursery are. They were all very cute and lively they interacted with us almost immediately. By helping out in the sunday school, a number of us has learnt that being the teacher's assitant is not reaqlly an easy job to do and you have to let the children pay attention to what they say and not run about in the classrooms. We have also learnt how to control our emotions when we are helping out and that personal feelings should not be brought around for others to see and judge. Watching the little kids learning about Jesus at such a young age inspired us to learn more about God. Though this is a volunteery work, I still think that I have gained a lot of experience in this four Sundays and I felt really happy with the little kids. I feel that as long the effort is put in, others can see how hard you wokred for what you strived to do.

There's drill practice tmr, remember to bring boots and nametag! And the attire is national tee and shorts. (:
Remeber to bring your water bottles along too! Endure it, I am sure we will be proud of ourselves when we put in effort to learn every step that counts. (:

NCO Retreat ended this afternoon. One of the camps I've enjoyed the most.

I took a backseat in this camp to let the others manage it. The committee did a pretty fine job and the girls were shining like shooting stars. I am hopeful that what they have learned with remain with them and as they live it out, others would learn from them.

The most heartening things in the camp happened when I witnessed Dawn and Yingyu hugging each other. I see the genuine friendship shining through and the warmth that radiated from the different groups were lovely.

I hope the friendship would continue to deepen and pray that God would hold the girls together. I remember reading a quote that says that friends are the family that we choose. Girls, cherish this choice that u've made and make it the best choice u've made for life.

We have more choices that we can imagine in life. If we exercise our choices wisely, life would be abundant. If we choose wrongly, like what Eve and Adam did in the garden of Eden, the outcome is suffering for a long time. Thankfully, we believe that God would deliver us and all eternity would be in His glorious presence, without tears and pain.

Choose wisely girls, learn the good choices to make, love the people who give you the strength to face life's challenges and live each day, thankful for all that u've and sharing your blessings with all who need it!

And as it is said in the bible, and the greatest of them all, is LOVE.

Hey girls, sheena here. (Sec 3 one) Hhah, forgotten to thank you guys just now. Well, i guess i have to say it here (:

First, to my BELOVED AWESOME-EST drinks team (Fion,XinWei,Cecillia,Berlinda): Thank you for standing on the drinks stall all the time even though you guys are SUPER tired. Well, i didn't even have as much perseverance as you all. Im really proud of you guys!(: Even though we face SUPER duper much difficulties, like being the last to settle,spilling drinks and not enough syrup but im glad that none of you gave up. And I have to apologise for being rude to you guys at times , when some problem crop up. Im really happy that you all didn't blame me. Continue the good work yeah.Im really thankful and happy to be in the drinks team.

Sorry for the rest cause i didn't really notice or went to the other teams so i don't know the specific. I'll just thank you generally?

Sec 1 : First time doing fortnight and I think it's pretty awesome already! Continue the good work and Im really thankful for being so sweet and understanding. Thank you for helping out even though today was a little messy . I believe you guys will do a better next year!!(:

Recipe for Success

This is a recipe for cupcakes...

INGREDIENTS

• 2 cups all purpose flour
• 2 cups sugar
• 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
• 1 teaspoon salt
• 1 teaspoon baking soda
• 1/2 cup shortening
• 3/4 cup water
• 2 large eggs
• 3/4 cup milk
• 1 teaspoon vanilla
• 4 ounces melted unsweetened baking chocolate

Each ingredient is essential for the cupcakes to be edible and delicious. Flour, butter/shortening and sugar are the key ingredients for any cupcakes. There are milk and eggs so that the cupcake has liquid and the ingredients can mix well.

Baking powder and salt are needed in small amount, though they are present in small amounts, they add a dimension of flavour that is necessary for the cupcakes to taste good.

Vanilla and chocolate add extra flavour that make the cupcakes taste very good. By adding different flavourings and fruits, you get cupcakes of varied and exciting flavours.

You can also add decorations to make the cupcakes even more beautiful.

METHOD

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line cupcake pans with paper liners.

Combine all ingredients into large mixing bowl. Mix at low speed for 30 seconds, and scrape bowl. Mix at high speed for 3 minutes.

Fill liners 1/2 to 2/3 full of batter. Bake 20 to 25 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.

Cool 10 minutes in pans then remove from pan, and place on wire racks to cool completely.

Frost when chocolate cupcakes are completely cool.

RECIPE FOR A YOUR PERFECT 9TH COY

The teachers, officers and helpers give directions to ensure that every ingredient is added at the right time and with the correct amount so that the cupcakes turn out right. Without them, just having the different ingredients, you might not get the correct end-product.

You, girls, are like the different ingredients in a recipe. If only one of u is available, you cannot fulfil your purpose without the others. Flour on its own, cannot be made into cupcakes. Baking powder, on its own, cannot create the chemical reaction that would cause the cakes to rise. The flavours on that own, would not be as tasty as when it is mixed with the other ingredients to create that ideal cupcake.

Above all, it takes love and careful mixing to ensure that everything turns out well.

I hope u gals would be able to see yourself as an essential part of the recipe to make 9th COY a success and see the value of each person. So that, we turn out to be a success and not a flat cupcake or a horrible tasting one. Worse, if you decide not to bake the cupcake mix, it would just be a terrible-tasting mash and nothing that people would eat. Do follow through the whole process to cupcakes that have been baked and beautifully decorated.

At the farewell party, I spoke to one of you and asked what you'd try to achieve this year. You said that you'd try to befriend the ones neglected and I saw that you're already working at it. It is difficult and I can see that you're trying... I know you might feel helpless at times but I know that if you persevere, we would see the results one day. The same way that the quiet Weilin has grew and shone in a way that surprised many of us.

Keep digging for the treasure in others. Gems are not lying out there in the open for everyone to see. Only the faithful miners will find the most precious gemstones.

You are all gemstones to be found and polished. Believe this for yourself and others!

Light a candle, one by one.

Soon, the world would be a brighter place.

Today is the first day our dear sec 3s volunteering at BSU. I was quite worried because the last time we went to a home, we were unprepared for what greeted us. My guilt from the previous experience has not worn off and here I was, exposing our girls to a new challenge.

Thankfully Jasmine, Eunice and Shahila did a great job in sharing their passion with the afflicted elderly and the girls had a preview to what to expect, and was equipped them with the some knowledge of befriending the elderly.

God sent a little shower to cool off the morning. I was touched that the girls did not begrudge the long walk from Novena MRT station to CDC. In their hands, I held onto the bags of stuff that they have lovingly prepared for the elderly. I looked at the boards they embraced in their arms and imagined the warmth that they would bring for the next few weeks.

There was an initial sense of awkwardness when we first started. Jeslin & Michelle readily volunteered to help with moving some mattresses. Dawn and Yingyu were raring and first to lead the pack. Yingtong and Hwamin, though hesitant, broke the ice with their sweet smiles... Jieyi and Sheena looked on as Mdm Beng Lay spoke to an elderly woman share her story. I left BSU praying that God would lead the girls and protect them from any unexpected.

When I returned, I saw Sheena chatting with a patient all by herself. Jieyi was in the ward, listening attentively as well. Jeslin, as usual, was bubbly and energetic. When I saw the smiles on the girls' faces, the noonday sun dimmed in comparison. The elderly looked at ease and some of them were beaming with happiness. I could literally see that the girls' love have touched them and the initial strangeness has melted much, as I listened to the stories the girls share.

Even though they faced some tough patches, they were all ready to forgive and showed understanding and compassion. Their willingness to learn also showed their dedication to give the best to those whom they are reaching out to.

As I see the girls depart for school, to continue with the next day's preparation, I was deeply touched and uber impressed. The girls have overcome their previous unpleasant experience and are indeed "fighting" like how Sheena has urged on earlier on FB. They have managed to forge a bond with the patients in mere 2 hours and enjoyed themselves as they served and loved.

My heart was deeply warmed as I recalled Dawn asking for a photo with her "partner-in-crime". If what you girls have done is considered "criminal", you've my blessings to keep committing crimes! You girls have worked excellently as a team and the attitudes that you've displayed today, have shown that you're worthy examples and role models for our younger girls.

Thanks for your selfless giving and your courage to overcome the past to create memories for those unwell and ourselves! Remember that though u might feel that you've done is little, you're like a candle that shines very brightly in the dark. Each life that you've touched, is like a candle lit. Keeping lighting a candle, one at a time. Bring hope and joy to those whose lives are covered by the gloom. One by one, the world would be a much brighter place!

I am very super duper proud of u, Dawn, Hwa Min, Jeslin, Jieyi, Michelle, Sheena, Ying Tong and Ying Yu! And I probably haven't said this in eons... I LOVE YOU!! =)

Hwa Min's Reflection

We are going to the Buffer Stepdown Unit to take care of the elderly during June holidays. I know a little about elderly so I think I won’t be able to take care of them well and I think it will be difficult to take care of the elderly. We need to accompany them, feed them, play games with them etc. There are many things we need to know before we are ready to handle the elderly. So they arranged a training for us at Tan Tock Seng Hospital to know more about the elderly and their condition and also how to take care of them.

After the training, I learned a lot from the nurses. I learned that there are different types of food that they eat, whether it’s normal or softer. I also learn that some elderly might have swallowing difficulties, so they will put a special powder in it. It will become like honey so it will help the elderly to swallow the water better. I like the taste, but the elderly have no choice but to consume it. I also learn about different types of personality the elderly have and how we can care for them. We also need to wash our hands after our voluntary work so we will not fall sick easily and we learn how to wash our hands the correct way so our hand will be super clean.

We also had a tour around the BSU and there were lot of elderly. We learn what kinds of patients are there and which elderly we should not handle as it may be difficult for us, young volunteers to do. Also we visited the areas we can hold our activities.

Some tips to share are that, we can talk to the elderly about the past since most of them only remember the past. We can show them some old photo and share some old stories with them. We also must try to be patient with them, not to rush them or show them unhappy faces because they are slow. We must be kind to them let them accept us as some might reject us as they can’t accept us so easily. So we have to be patient and wait for them to accept us.

I think when we are there for the volunteering work, we will be looking after them. For instance, to talk to them or listen to their experiences. We lend a listening ear to them to make them feel comfortable with us. I think we also need to feed them and help take care of them in case they fell. We also accompany them so that they feel like they are not alone and make them feel comfortable.

We are preparing the busy box, so we need a budget and I think twenty dollar is quite good for the budget. So each person approximately needs to provide like three dollar plus which is quite a small amount. We also can bring our own stuff that we don’t need and put it in the busy box. For instance like stuff toy that u don’t use any more, board games or even old games that they play in the past like Five Stones. We also can put some past photographs in it to let them see. So the busy box will be filled with things for the elderly to be occupied.

My farewell speech

One day, everybody has to leave someone or some place where we can be of a further help to.

Today marks the last day of my gb journey since year 2006. I have been in GB 9th coy for at least 10 years and today, i am leaving due to family commitments.

I still remembered the days when I enrolled into Westwood Secondary School. After the first week or second, we are required to go for CCA trails. As a badminton player back then in my primary school days, i would definitely very much want to go back to my 老本行 or otherwise, join a sports cca. To my dismay, i didnt managed to get into the final round for the trails. With a disappointed mind and a urgent deadline to meet for my cca selection form, I put down the Girls' Brigade as my first choice.

During the weeks of waiting for the CCA results to be out, some of my close friends started to tell me words like "haiyo. why join gb? like so boring, you know?" That is when I started to be influenced mentally and started to dislike the idea of getting in GB. I had my fingers really crossed and prayed that i wont get in. Who knows one day, Miss Tay (GB teacher in-charge then; my Literature Teacher) came in to my class and said "Who is Sheridin Tan?" I put up my hands up and she said "You are in the Girls' Brigade!! There will be a welcome party for you this Saturday! Remember to turn up alright?" When i heard that, i nodded my head. But i know deep down in my heart, I am really unhappy. Yet i still turned up for the welcome party.

My perspective towards GB didnt changed significantly after the first session. I had this crazy idea of quitting GB and join @link (Cabin Club) since i have friends in the CCA. So i talked to Miss Tay and gave her a million reasons to quit the CCA. To my surprise, she agreed to let me quit. So happily, i skipped confidently to talk to the teacher in-charge of @link club. I still remembered how unapproachable teacher was then. Being young and biased, i told myself that since my presence wasn't appreciated, i might as well join back GB. After much persuasion and promises to Miss Tay, She finally agreed to let me join back.

Although I was still in time for the drill camp, I felt really out of place. because after all, none of my classmates were with me. It would mean that i need to work hard to be friendly and learn all the footdrill commands. Soon time flew and it was already August. The annual Inter-school UG Footdrill Competition was held and due to the shortage of girls, almost all Secondary 1s needed to be involved. I was one of the secondary ones involved and i was a reserved. Hearing from my GB seniors that GB usually clinched the top 3 positions, I felt really confident about our winning. I still remembered that due to inexperience we had, we didn't managed to clinch the top 3 positions. The next day after the competition, one of the boys from another CCA came up to me and mocked at me saying "eh, Sheridin. Looks like GB didnt managed to clinch top 3 hor?". Feeling really offended, I ran off to the toilet crying. That was my very first time crying over a CCA. After that day, my faith for GB went stronger and I was determined to prove that guy wrong. And for the next few years, we did proved him wrong.

Throughout my days in GB, I learned so many things that I wouldn't probably have learned in other CCAs. I truly believed that it is GB that made me who I am today. Without GB, I wouldn't have so many good friends in my life. Without GB, I wouldn't have known that I am capacble of committing myself in to such a amazing family. Without GB, I wouldn't have stepped out of my comfort zone. Without GB, I wouldn't have enjoyed my 4 years in Westwood. Without GB, I wouldn't have learned to care for others' feelings. Without GB, i wouldn't have learned from mistakes. Without GB, i wouldn't have understood the importance of feeling belong. Without GB, I wouldn't have understood the hard work put in week after week to teach the young girls the right things, words and actions. Without GB, I wouldn't have gathered all my courage to point out mistakes just for the girls' well-being. Without GB, I wouldn't have learned to be a stronger person. Without GB, I am not who i am today.

Despite today marks my official end in GB, it doesn't mark the end of our friendships. And this does not mean that it marks the end of you all impacting the lives of one another. Lastly, "make the best out of everything you have. because even in the worst scenario, you are still capable of learning and stretching your own limits. :)

Weariness is a common complaint all around.

Girls have to return to school for remedial. Jieyi shared that there is a schedule for remedial. Dawn has to co-ordinate with all the girls to prepare the personal board for volunteering. Sergeants' Weekend took up 1.5 days... you girls learned about action... we live in an action-packed age. There are endless things to do.

Met Jiachyi, Sheridin and Xueyi on thu evening for dinner. Jiachyi was busy with quiz... revising even while waiting long long for our dinner. Xueyi was at Botanic Garden in the morning for lesson and had famine camp happening during the weekend. Sheridin had games trial to prepare for and her weekend would be invested with her school and friends. Peiqi couldn't join us because she has tests during the week.

Minhui dear has been busy with overtime @ work... busy with church ministry, in worship and for cell... in GB, she's busy with upcoming Corporals' Camp and co-ordinating the NCO Retreat.

Mdm Beng Lay has her family to take care of, ministry outside and within the church... materials to prepare for GB and helps lighten Minhui's burdens...

Ms Peilin has to travel to Cambodia with her students... then she has tonnes of work to return to...

Sounds tiring just to think about all the things that everyone has to do...

Just a reminder for us all that all things are in Jesus' hands and we can cast our anxieties and burdens upon Him. He would carry them all and help us to overcome our fatigue.

There's always tomorrow to finish up all tasks, the only pressing thing is, to love the people around u, because u never know when would be the last time u see them. Cherish people first and foremost!

Goodbyes are hellos to new friends who have yet to be touched up close and personal.

The helpers were asked to write their farewell speeches, not that they’re leaving 9^th COY. In doing so, I hoped that we would all reflect in our participation in the company and look back at what we’ve done, are doing and hope to achieve in our time with all of you…

It’s on the blog so that u can nudge us on when we’re lagging and slowing down… and be part of that process of fulfilling what we hope to attain, as a team. Here’s mine.

Goodbye, Fare Well.

My greatest fear in life, is not living it out to the fullest and being crippled by fear. There were many unknowns, many fears and much unwillingness when I first committed to joining GB fully. Many times, I’ve been asked to commit to it but have managed to shield it until a time came when the beckon of responsibility was simply unavoidable.

When I first joined, it was a journey to the unknown. Not the kind of discovery that you’d look forward when you travel to a new country, full of pleasant expectations. It was full of trepidation of unwelcome uncertainties; full of the realization that I am doing something I am not good in.

I love freedom to do whatever I like only. I hate being bound by rules and hate even more, bounding others by rules. GB to me is everything opposite of the freedom I enjoyed so much.

In my years in GB, I learned much that have benefited me in my course of work and life. The discipline taught me to pause, plan ahead and delve into the details. At this point when I wrote this, I am still far from being good in it but I have met people younger than me who are so efficient and enjoying the process of all of it. And I love learning from them and being somewhat more like them in time.

One of my greatest joy in GB, is seeing how the girls evolve through the years through the awkward first year to being confident in their senior years. I love the admiring looks that the younger ones have for their seniors as the latter lead them in the activities. I love how the older girls command respect when they impart drills and share their valuable hindsight with the newbies.

CCA fair is something I look most forward to when I see our girls moving amongst the crowd of new Sec 1s to convince them to join GB. I love the excitement that radiates from their faces. And this excitement continues to flow to the welcome party when we see the layers of the Sec 1s peel and learn more about them.

Personally, I prefer to spend one-on-one time with individual girls but being a leader brought along priorities. I needed to learn to hone my organizational management skills and train ladies and girls to lead while I look at the larger picture. I needed to learn to motivate ladies and girls to touch lives while I attempt to touch them first. Thankfully, God provided me with role models to learn from in my workplace. He also provided for management lessons in the workplace that I made some attempts to practice with 9^th COY.

The most important assets I had in 9^th COY were the fellow helpers who pressed on with me through my weaknesses and filled up my gaps. They are the backbone of the company and make us more complete even with my numerous failures.

At the end of my service at 9^th COY, I hope I am not saying goodbye here to build my personal kingdom. But I hope that, I am leaving because there is a strong foundation in 9^th COY and I could live my passions in another place and impact others who would impact others too,

God is my main motivation for serving in 9^th COY and I hope that my presence there would have shown a glimpse of my first love, however faint it might have been. The other objective I have, is that I would touched at least a couple of lives who would be inspired to serve others as well. I hope that through my sharing and experiences, at least one person have seen the needs of the less privileged in their midst and felt compelled to do something to alleviate their pains.

I hope I am leaving 9^th COY a better place than when I have first started and hope that everyone would strive to make it even better. Imagine the power combined if everyone does their part to make 9^th COY a better family.

(This day being Vesak Day 2011), I leave a quote by Buddha, “What you are is what you have been. What you’ll be is what you do now.”

Remember always, that what you do today, would determine who you are tomorrow.

No great woman starts by being great, they all start by little acts that make where they are a better place first.

In others' shoes

I was away in New Zealand in the beginning of April. One of the plans was to hike at the Tongariro National Park. Before my trip, I did not do any research in contrast to my sister who had read up and was well prepared for the trip. She invested in a pair of waterproof hiking boots that were comfortable and suitable for the terrain we were doing to explore.

On the other hand, I brought along my favourite pair of sneakers that have travelled far and wide with me. They have accompanied me on many paths less trodden and adventures that have left them very worn out. In other words, they were battered and unsuitable for anything more than a leisure walk around Lake Taupo, a lake with a size that is the same as my country, Singapore (as reminded by the Kiwis).

On the first day arrival, my sneakers AKA Happy Shoes have lost the first rubber sole. I continued with my trusty old shoes and lost the second rubber shoe within the next few days. Up till the morning of the hike at the Tongariro crossing where there were rubbly trails and snow-covered rocky land, I was still undecided if I should wear my comfortable Happy Shoes.

My sister urged me to rent a pair of hiking boots which were very affordable at $15. I relented for the sake of completing the 7 hour hike without any catastrophic event. The hiking boots were brand new and hugged my ankles tightly. This protected my ankles from any sprains more than a couple of times during the long tedious hike. The thick and non-slip soles also ensured that I could descend a very steep and sandy downslope safely. I was also protected from slipping or freezing my feet when I travelled through the icy ways.

However, it was a very tough start for me in the boots because they weighed like 2 kg on each side. I struggled to make it past the Devil's Staircase which was multiple flights of steps and was left heaving and panting when I completed that 1/3 of the journey. Wheezing and turning pale, my sister took up the burden of carrying our haversack which held our food and water supply for that day.

Valuable lessons I learned while I reflected in those hardy and uncomfortable hiking boots.

1. Do my research and learn about untrodden paths so that I don't suffer for my ignorance.

2. It is difficult to walk in others' shoes - if others are walking slowly in their shoes and struggling alot, don't assume they are weak but realise that there might be some reasons unknown to me.

3. Shoes that are most comfortable to me might not be the best shoes on some journeys. Leave behind what I love most to see new things in the safest possible manner.

4. Trust others (my sister in this case) to provide insights into an area I've unfamiliar with.

5. GOD is good, He protected and led us through this journey and more ahead.

I left my happy shoes in my fave spot in NZ @ Waitomo. Hope they enjoy the carefree life there and add more colours to their already colourful landscape and visitors!

Remember, to consider that others wear different shoes and have different feet!

God's Hand Upon Us

Are you aware that the region around Gunung Merapi in Yogyakarta has been declared to be under Code Red by the Indonesian Government?

Do you know what this means?

Or is it another natural disaster to you, apart from the Typhoon Megi, impending floods in Bangkok, etc, etc.

The active volcano which is spurting much ashes is located near the Yakkum Rehabilitation Centre where we were supposed to visit from 25 Nov to 01 Dec. While I was upset to know about the cancellation and hated even more, the fact that I had to break a promise, the news brought a sigh of relief. Even though I worry for the locals who have been kind to me while I was there, I was thankful that God has once again, protected me by His grace. And this time round, a group of you who might have been going on the trip with me.

Friends have asked me, how do I know, that God is real, and that things that happen in our lives, aren't just coincidences...

Well, all I can say is, thank God for all these coincidences in my life.

One particular "coincidence" if you would call it, was a trip that God had somehow stopped in Dec 2004. This was the period when the devastating tsunami ravaged many countries and lives. I was planning to be at one of the spots that was affected but was saved by God's grace.

And God has once again, reminded me through the Gunung Merapi episode, that He is in control of all situations and continues to watch over me and us daily. This explains why I gladly give of my life to serve Him, because my life is bestowed and preserved by Him. If He has done so, He has a purpose for which I must fulfill, if not, then my life wouldn't have lived the worth that He has intended.

Pause a little, my dear ladies, and think about how He has protected and watched over you. And put you specially where you are... because He has a reason. And do be mindful to fulfill that mission, or you would find yourself aimless and drifting without a focus.

Discover your purpose and focus.

knock knock.

Yes, I know, some of you must be disappointed about the postponement of the farewell party.

Disappointed because u'r all geared up to come in your superstar best;

disappointed because u've prepared so many days and hours to surprise your seniors;

disappointed because u'r all ready to reminisce the days in GB...

I must apologise for making the changes... because I received news on thu that 4 of you cannot make it.

A farewell party without 4 very important people in the company was totally unacceptable in my opinion.

Hence, knowing that I was gonna ruffle some feathers, postpone i must.

Girls, this is life.

Many things are going to happen contrary to the plans we have made but know this... God knows the plans He has for us.

Because of the postponement, I was able to attend a workshop at the GBHQ to prepare better for the year-end trip. I caught up with a friend there. And I heard God and see God's marvellous hands at work.

I was as frustrated if not MORE frustrated with the last minute changes. Pls know that as the acting Captain, I bear my frustrations as well as everyone's elses. Thank God He knows better. And it was a refreshing time for me to listen to Him and see how He sets things in place perfectly.

Sooooo girls, trust me. God knows better and I believe that 15th MAY would be a bester date for remembering the lovely girls who have contributed so much to 9th COY and to each of us, in their special ways...

And yes, I say bester... coz it is gonna be better than BEST.

In the meantime, pls give yr best in yr studies, to your family, friends and all who love u dearly.

Watch out for His little surprises and gifts. Our God is a good GOD. =)

Theme : Lady Chef

- Outdoor Cooking
- Rap/Poetry/Jingle (less than 100 words)
Focus: Learning from the honoring our Provider and those who provide for our daily needs (food, clothes, etc)
MUST be an original creation

TEAM SIZE: 8 girls
COMPOSITION: 4 x Lower; 4 x Upper
LIMIT: 1 team per company
REGISTRATION FEE: $20 per team

Basic: Team to bring (Limit to what are allowed)
Main: Supplied during the challenge (will not be disclosed earlier)

COOK: An outdoor meal with 1 compulsory dish + at least 2 other dishes
One key ingredient will be given (announce later)
All consumables in the standard package must be used up

Team should aim to preserve as much nutrients from the food as possible while at the same time ensuring that the dishes are delicious and look good
LOTS: Drawn during registration on challenge day (2 batches)

I was at a meeting with an old church friend who runs an orphanage in Nias, Indonesia this evening.

If anyone remembered, many years ago, a devastating earthquake hit Nias a few years ago and he appeared on The Straits Times, as the only Singaporean on the island. The orphanage, known as Tomorrow's Hope, has come a long way since.

Today, they have a plot of land with a few blocks of lodgings for the orphans or fatherless children, a workshop, vegetable farm, a chicken coop and ovens that the children use for baking.

Today, there are 46 children who are given the chance for an education and given the opportunity to lead a life hopeful that their future would be different. Different because they have food to eat, different because they have a chance to be educated, different because someone chose to give up the comfortable life in Singapore and chose to be separated from his beloved children, so that the others' children, can have hope for tomorrow.

My friend also shared about the story of a boy in the home.

The boy has a family with a mother and at least 3 siblings but he stays in the home because his mother cannot afford to feed him. In the home, he has clean clothes, proper meals and friends. But he missed his family so much, he ran away from the orphanage to try to go home which is 40km away.

When he reached home, his mother cried. Not for joy. But with sorrow because she doesn't know how she can feed him.

My dear girls, as u read this, from the comfort of your home. On your laptop or desktop, I hope u spend a moment being grateful. Thankful for all that you have. And better still, go out and thank you parents for providing for all that you have.

And thank God for placing you where u r.

And having thank God, ask Him how you can share your blessings with others.

For it's more blessed to give, than receive.

Captain Mindy is opening a guitar class for those who are interested in learning guitar.
It will be taught by her sister.

It will start at the end of March. For those who are interested, you must have a guitar and a tuning fork. If not, please lend from others. Also, girls who are interested must be commited towards attending every single guitar lesson! :)

Theme : Shine like stars ( same as our 2007 fun camp theme, haha! )
Our first talk was ' Building Healthy Relationships '.
All about telling us about God's love, Agape!
Love is all about waiting to give and gives. Honours and fills with God and love.
However, for the opposite, lust is cant wait to get, uses and deviod of God's love.
We should learn to love instead of lust, right ? :)

Second talk was ' Decision Making' there are 3 important factors that we must have if we want to be successful :
Direction : Knowing what you want. What you really wants.
Decision : Deciding what you want.
Determination: Work on what you want. Don't give up easily ^^.
Make positive decisions as well ! ^^. We can only go towards what we want when we know what we really wanted.
Third Talk: Ethics in Relationship. A character : it is what you really were without anyone noticing/ looking at you. Don't put on a fake front in front of people, acting like someone you ain't, because that ain't Character. ;) .
Character values important for a leader : Accountability, Commitment, Teachable, Enthusiastic, Confident, Responsible and Dependable.
Values Gb leaders should possess: Discipline and Well- Mannerism.
